Frequently asked questions
There are many benefits to quartz, which is no surprise that it’s one of the most commonly used crystals in modern times.
It has the unique ability to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy and is used to make watches, clocks, ultrasound, radios and computer chips.
Quartz has the ability to amplify, transmit, store and transform energy. It also has the power to activate, magnify and harmonise other crystals, so placing crystals around your bowl when playing is great!
Quartz harmonises and balances all the main chakras and also cleanses the aura. This makes it a perfect tool for meditation.
Ideally you should clean your bowl with a white cotton cloth and nothing too abrasive. Or you can use a duster if it’s collected dust inside. Try to not use any cleaning products, especially anything harsh as it may damage the bowl. You can wet the cloth slightly and use lemon essential oil if you need to remove something sticky/ harder to remove. But try to keep it nice and simple and use a clean cotton cloth (I find handkerchiefs work really well as they’re nice and soft).
Quartz itself does not require cleansing. So you do not need to cleanse your singing bowl like you would with other crystals if someone else has been playing it. Just give it a light chime and the vibrations will do the job for you!
Depending on the size of your bowls they can be stacked inside one another. Always keep your bowl protected in its plastic bag, or swap for a silk bag instead and ensure there are no gaps between each bowl that could cause them to knock together. Always use extra foam/ packing so that your bowls are snug and don't move around.
It’s best to store your bowl in a bag or box if you have animals or children running around to avoid them knocking anything over. Leaving it on a shelf is fine if it feels safe there, as long as it’s not in direct sunlight for long periods of time.
There is no set guide or right or wrong way to choose your bowl; it all comes down to personal preference and using your intuition to tune into what feels right for you. When I hear the sounds I have a better understanding of what I feel drawn to. Understanding the sizes of the bowls can help:
The smaller 6” and 7” bowls, or high octave bowls like the 5th octave, are accelerating bowls - above the body
7”, 8” and 9” bowls are centering (in the body). Mid-octave bowls like the 4th octave are also known as centering
Larger bowls, 10 inches + and lower octave bowls (3rd octave) are more grounding
There is no set bowl that's suited specifically for beginners, as I shared above it often comes down to personal preference and which note/ sound resonates for you.
However, if you need more of a guide the 7 or 8 imch bowls are centering so can be a good place to start as these work within the body.
Yes, you can play your bowls outside and in sunlight. Birds and animals just love the sounds of the bowls! Especially horses, they become so inquisitive and dogs and cats love a good nap by the bowls.
It’s best not to leave your bowl in direct sunlight for long periods of time however as the rainbow tint may change colour over time.
